Project Description

The 2022–23 European Heineken Rugby Champions Cup has started, and we are thrilled to have worked on the signage at some of the participating clubs across England, Scotland & Wales. In fact, our RTA Publicity crews have driven up and down the country to get the Heineken signage installed at the venues.

The tournament kicked off in December 2022, and the final will be held at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland, on May 20, 2023. So, as the fixtures have been released, fans of Europe’s elite can look forward to exciting games with plenty of show-stopping moments.

The Heineken Rugby Champions Cup

Now considered one of the biggest sporting events in the rugby world, the rugby Champions Cup originated in 1995. As the sport grew in popularity, so did the cup, quickly accomplishing the title of “greatest rugby tournament” by the Observer.

As defined by The Guardian, the Heineken Rugby Champions Cup is “more colourful than regular domestic competitions; more competitive than the World Cup; more teams than the Six Nations or (as was then) the Tri Nations”.

But the cup has come a long way from its very first game, in 1995 (originally The Heineken Cup), played on the shores of the Black Sea, where Toulouse beat Farul Constanta of Romania 54-10 in front of two men and a dog.

The Rugby Champions Cup 2022/23 will mark its 28th edition, sponsored by Heineken, who returned in 2018 after four years away. And this season will have an added layer of excitement, as South African teams have been introduced into the playing roster.

Our work at the Heineken Rugby Champions Cup

At RTA Publicity, we have over 40 years experience in the sponsorship signage, venue branding and perimeter advertising.

Although the majority of our work is within horse racing, over the years we’ve worked at a wide range of other events nationwide. In fact, we now work across all the major sporting festivals and events, for venues, sponsors, caterers and hospitality. We provide a range of branding solutions to enhance brand visibility, amplify sponsorship activity and support operations.

We have worked with Heineken for this sponsorship for a number of years. In fact, our account manager Tricia has looked after their account for 26 years!

Our remit for the event is to rebrand the bars and public areas around the stadiums involved in the competition each year. This is to ensure Heineken have a strong presence at each venue to support their sponsorship.

So, as the clubs involved vary from year to year, the season starts with site visits to all the stadiums to look at the branding opportunities, measure up and plan for the installation.

We then put our proposals to our clients for approval, budget sign-off and the design of the artwork. And only then, production of the signage begins.

Tricia does a marvellous job with the logistics as we often have a limited time to access the stadiums pre and post-match to install and strip out. And, sometimes with five or so venues to be branded across one weekend!

So far this season, we’ve been to Exeter, Leicester, Gloucester, Sale, Saracens and Ospreys, Harlequins, supplied some signage to Edinburgh and Northampton for rounds 1 & 2, rounds 3 & 4 matches are over the next two weekends!  Winner onwards to the Quarter finals in April.
